In one of the biggest single campaigns the Omnia team has worked on in recent years, we were taken on by law firm Freeths in their defence of the sub postmasters against the Post Office in the Horizon trial.
The sub postmasters alleged that the Horizon computing system, which had caused them to be wrongly accused of fraud and theft, was bug-ridden and not fit for purpose.
The outcome
After a trial in the High Court, the sub-postmasters won their case as the judge ruled in their favour.
This decision was hugely significant to the sub-postmasters, allowing them to be proven innocent of fraud and theft that had significantly damaged their reputations.
The trial and decisions received national coverage, in the FT, Sky news, Channel 4 and the Daily Mail.
“Whatever happens from now on, this is the victory we've been fighting for - postmasters have won and Post Office will never again be able to behave as they have in the past with impunity.”
Alan Bates, lead claimant and Justice For Sub-postmasters Alliance representative
